Top 5 places to eat homemade fries in Brussels

Five Brussels friteries that take their frites seriously — potatoes peeled fresh daily, cooked twice, served with the right sauces.

Belgian frites are not French fries. The potato is different (usually Bintje), the preparation is specific (cooked twice in beef fat at different temperatures), and the result — when done right — is something genuinely distinct. Here are the five Brussels addresses that do it best.

1. Maison Antoine — Place Jourdan, Etterbeek

Over 70 years old, family-run, and consistently considered the benchmark. Located on Place Jourdan — a ten-minute walk from our Etterbeek properties — Maison Antoine draws a loyal crowd of locals and connoisseurs. The sauce selection is extensive: curry ketchup, homemade tartare, pickles, spicy options. Tradition says to take your cone to one of the surrounding bar terraces.

2. Patatak — Parvis de Saint-Gilles / Rue de la Bourse

One of the newer entries on this list, and one of the most conscientious. Potatoes are sourced locally and peeled fresh every day. You choose between traditional potato frites in beef fat or sweet potato frites in vegetable oil. Two locations make it accessible from most central neighbourhoods.

3. Frites Atelier — Rue Sainte-Catherine

Chef Sergio Herman's take on the frite is unashamedly high-end. Zeeland potatoes, samphire salt, unusual toppings including nori seaweed, truffles, and parmesan. Near Saint Catherine square and close to several Rezidentz buildings — the kind of place you take visitors to show them that Belgian frites can be a serious culinary experience.

4. Patate — Rue de l'Aqueduc, Ixelles

Opened in 2019 by a heritage-focused chef, Patate uses organic Belgian potatoes delivered fresh by local farmers. Popular on Wednesday evenings during the Place du Châtelain market. A neighbourhood spot with genuine quality.

5. Fritland — Rue Henri Maus, near La Bourse

Operating since 1978, Fritland is the central Brussels classic. Potatoes cooked twice in 100% beef fat. Also specializes in mitraillettes — the Belgian baguette sandwich that deserves its own article. Open late, central, consistently reliable.

A note on proximity

Several of the best friteries in Brussels happen to be within walking distance of Rezidentz apartments. This is not a coincidence — we chose locations with quality neighbourhood life built in.
