Brussels doesn't always get credit as an art city, but it should. Between the major museums, independent galleries, and a steady stream of immersive experiences, there's consistently more to see here than most people realize. Here's a selection worth building an afternoon around.
Immersive experiences
- WOM (World of Mind) at Tour & Taxi — 80 visual, tactile, and auditory illusions exploring perception and the senses. Genuinely disorienting in the best way.
- Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience (Galerie Horta) — 360° digital projections, virtual reality, and light installations across multiple rooms.
- Tokyo Art City at Viage — a 360° journey through the world's largest city, presented as an audiovisual experience.
- Reset Immersive (Rue de la Banque) — digital art in a repurposed abandoned office. The setting is half the experience.
Museum exhibitions
- Diane von Furstenberg at the Fashion & Lace Museum — a retrospective on the Brussels-born designer and her cultural impact.
- Expeditions of Egypt at the Art & History Museum — Belgian collections from over a century of archaeological exploration.
- Romy Schneider at Cinéma Palace — a tribute to the actress, combining film archive and personal archive material.
- Happiness Exhibition at Mont des Arts — a colourful show exploring the relationship between art and psychological wellbeing.
For families and curious minds
- Art of the Brick at Grand-Place — 70 sculptures built from over a million LEGO bricks.
- Banksy Museum (Rue de Laeken) — 120+ works, plus weekend street art workshops.
- Bond in Motion at Brussels Expo — 45 original vehicles and props from the James Bond films.
Local tip
Brussels Museums Nocturnes: every Thursday evening from April to May, 37 museums open until 10pm. A different way to experience the city.
Brussels rewards slow exploration. The exhibitions above are a starting point — but the best art in this city is often the unscheduled kind: the street art in Molenbeek, the private gallery you find by accident in Ixelles, the architecture you notice on a long walk.
